What makes you most proud to work at Maine Grains?
It is an honor to join the hard-working, dynamic and dedicated team at Maine Grains led by an amazing woman committed to farm families, sustainable land use, and resilient grain economies. I am proud that our farmers grow the best tasting and most uniquely flavored grains in the Country. Together, we envision a healthy, diverse agricultural future and amplify opportunities for prosperity within our communities.
Where were you born?
On the back forty acres in the wind. Aroostook County. God’s Country. Northern Maine.
I live in New York City now bridging the deep urban and the deep rural, farming in collaboration with my father, brother, nephew, a small organic grains operation as part of our potato business in Monticello.
What is your favorite activity to do in the outdoors of Maine?
Be in the water swimming or on the land walking.
Who is your favorite musician or band?
Tough question.. lately, all the kid bands with Gowanus Music Club where an afternoon of their music makes the world feel hopeful. Woman musicians in general are my heroes. Patti Smith, Nina Simone, kd lang, Kate Bush, Ella, Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton, Joan Osborne, Carol King, Heart, Indigo Girls, Kathleen Hanna, Lisa Fisher, Darlene Love, Beyonce.
What is one of your greatest accomplishments?
Laughing at myself while my daughter Matilda schools me daily on the secrets of how to be a better human being.
She is magnificent.
Where do you hope to travel to one day?
Bhutan, Denmark and Costa Rica are the happiest places on earth. Let’s go!
